Bath bombs take me back to my childhood. I remember growing up, Mum and Dad would put bath bombs in our stockings at Christmas and I would be in a mad rush to use them. Something about watching them fizz in the bath is quite relaxing and really cool.
There are SO many bath bombs out there that look awesome! But in this household, we make our own. We don’t use artificial colours or fragrances, just pure therapeutic grade essential oils as well as herbs and flowers to add some flair. This recipe make a beautiful, creamy vanilla citrus scented bath bomb that will delight your senses and add some fun to the tub.
You will need:
2/3 cup Baking soda
1/3 cup Citric acid
1/2 cup Cornstarch
1/3 cup Epsom salts
2 tsp Water
2 tsp Coconut Oil
20 drops of doTERRA’s Citrus Bliss Essential Oil Blend
Spray bottle with water
Herbs or flowers optional
Start by combining ingredients in a medium bowl and the wet ingredients in a small bowl. Add the Wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and and mix thoroughly with a whisk. The mixture will bubble slightly and begin the clump together. After mixing with the whisk, work the mixture with your hands. It should feel like wet sand and clump together when you squeeze it. If your mixture is too dry, simply spritz it with water, one spray at a time until you get it right. Don’t wet the mixture too much as your bath bombs won’t set properly!
Once your mixture is ready to go, press it firmly into a silicone soap mould or muffin tin lined with papers. Allow to sit for 1-2 hours. Once you have let them sit, carefully remove them from the moulds and set aside on a tea towel or towel for 24hrs before storing in a jar, or wrapping them as gifts. If you live in a particularly humid area, you may need to let them sit for an extra day or two before storing them.
I just love how super simple these are to make and how delicious they smell! Be Creative! different flowers and herbs, different essential oils…the possibilities are endless! Some of my favourite essential oil combinations to use for bath bombs include:
Frankincense & Wild Orange
Lavender & Geranium
Eucalyptus & Rosemary
